Postal Services Daily Schedule

The day starts bright and early at 7:00am every weekday morning at UCF Postal Services. Four of our team members come in to meet the USPS mail truck to unload mail that comes in tubs, trays, and boxes. We load the mail into wheeled "bird cages" which allows fast and secure delivery inside the building. We handle roughly 1.2 million pieces of incoming mail annually, which our postal team separates into mail for student housing and mail for campus deliveries. The student housing mail is ready for pickup by 9:00am to ensure fast delivery to our student body.

Next, we bring the tubs and trays of mail into the postal bay and sort flats and letters into the route bins for each of our five routes. It takes five team members approximately three to four hours to complete a "fine sort" of mail prior to preparing for campus delivery. Mail that cannot be sorted because of an incomplete address or missing label is separated and assigned to the lookup section where team members conduct a look up of the intended recipient.

At approximately 9:15am, we load and deliver that day's incoming mail to the Library and Undergrad Admissions. The UCF letter carrier will then pick up all outgoing mail from the Library and Undergrad Admissions and bring it back to Postal Services for processing. We also have a courier service for our Regional Campuses. Our couriers depart Postal Services at 8:00am each day and conduct several stops throughout our main campus to pick up mail which is going to other campuses. This mail is sorted, prepared for delivery, and on its way to the destination by around 9:30am. Traveling over 40,000 miles each annually, our two couriers are linked to the main campus via cellphone so that schedule changes may be made as conditions warrant.

Our main campus delivery routes start around 10:30am. On occasion, when unusally large volumes of mail have been received, there will be a slightly later start time for campus deliveries. Monday's tend to be busier than other days due to weekend mail volumes.

Our five campus delivery routes take about two hours, depending on the day's volume, allowing us to get back to your outgoing mail no later then 1:00pm. The items we bring back from our runs are separated into two groups, outgoing mail to be metered and interdepartmental deliveries. We have two high-speed Pitney Bowes metering machines capable of 260 mail pieces per minute to process your outgoing mail and we handle roughly 500,000 pieces of outgoing mail each year. It takes two people about three hours to meter out all the classes of mail as the other personnel are busy with interdepartmental mail. In addition to incoming and outgoing mail, we also distribute printed materials to the main campus faculty and staff.
